"This project perfectly captures what we love about contemporary family living - clean lines that don't feel cold, open spaces that still feel intimate, and quality finishes that will stand the test of time. The clients wanted a home that looked striking from the street but felt warm and welcoming inside, which presented an interesting design challenge.

The key was in the material palette and how we handled the interior flow. That black exterior cladding gives real street presence, but inside we've used warm timber tones, natural stone, and carefully placed glazing to create something that feels completely different - inviting rather than imposing. The kitchen island became a focal point early in the design process because we knew this family loves to entertain. That waterfall stone edge isn't just beautiful - it's practical for their lifestyle.

What I'm particularly proud of is how we've handled the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Those sliding doors don't just open up the room physically - they extend the living experience into the landscape. When you're standing in that kitchen, you're already part of the garden. It's that seamless flow that makes a house feel like a proper home.

The exposed ceiling beams were actually a late addition to the design, but they've become one of my favourite features. They add character and warmth to what could have been a stark space, whilst still maintaining those clean contemporary lines the clients loved. This home proves you don't need to choose between modern and welcoming - with thoughtful design, you can absolutely have both. That's the sweet spot we always aim for."
